Ayaneo Unveils Details of New Android Gaming Handheld

Ayaneo has disclosed further specifications for its upcoming device, the Pocket S, set to debut later this year. Running on a modern Snapdragon SoC and operating with Android, the Ayaneo Pocket S boasts impressive features, including a 1440p display and storage options of up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
Device Specifications Confirmation
After a period of anticipation, Ayaneo has officially confirmed additional specifications for the Pocket S, more than five months since the initial tease. Initially hinted at towards the end of August 2023, the Pocket S was revealed to sport a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. Subsequent updates included device renders and gameplay footage released in late 2023. The newly outlined specifications include:
- A 6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a brightness of 400 nits
- Up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage
- A 15 W System-on-Chip (SoC) Thermal Design Power (TDP)
Ayn Odin2 Rivalry
The Ayaneo Pocket S is positioned as a competitor to the Ayn Odin2, another 6-inch gaming handheld powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. According to Qualcomm’s official estimate, the Pocket S is expected to deliver approximately 20% more speed than the Odin2. Nevertheless, the device promises to offer superior performance compared to the Pocket Air, which features a Dimensity 1200 chipset.
Future Expectations and Indiegogo Campaign
While Ayaneo plans to unveil more details about the Pocket S in April, there is a level of uncertainty regarding the release timeline. Although originally slated for a December 2023 launch, the company’s Indiegogo campaign for the gaming handheld is already available in preview mode. As such, speculations about the actual release date, which may occur in April 2024, should be approached with caution.
