Samsung’s recent announcement of the Galaxy S24 series has stirred excitement among tech enthusiasts. Consisting of the base S24, the Plus, and the Ultra, these models are now available for pre-order, accompanied by tempting trade-in offers for existing device owners.

Galaxy S24 vs Galaxy S22: Design and Display Enhancements

While the exterior design may seem familiar, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ present notable upgrades in both hardware and software. The distinct circular cutouts for each rear-facing camera replace the previous prominent camera contour. The displays also witness significant improvements, with peak brightness reaching an impressive 2600 nits due to the introduction of Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with LTPO / HOP backplane. Notably, the non-Ultra models now feature a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a departure from the previous 48-120Hz limitation. Additionally, the S24+ boasts a higher-resolution panel at 3120 x 1440 pixels, surpassing the S22+’s 2340 x 1080 resolution.

The 2024 flagships introduce Vision Booster technology and Adaptive Color Tone, akin to Apple’s True Tone, optimizing color and white balance based on ambient lighting conditions using the phone’s cameras.

Galaxy S22 vs Galaxy S24: Performance and Battery Boosts

Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ house either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chips, a notable leap from the older Galaxy S22’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 SoC. Samsung claims a 70% faster CPU and a remarkable 14.7x faster AI processing with the Exynos 2400. The inclusion of the Xclipse 940 graphics chip, based on AMD’s RDNA3 architecture, enhances general performance and ray tracing capabilities.

Improved cooling with large vapor chambers, along with upgraded RAM and storage options for the S24+, contributes to a more robust user experience. Battery capacities have also increased, with the S24 featuring a 4,000mAh unit (up from 3,700mAh) and the S24+ boasting a 4,900mAh battery (up from 4,500mAh).

Galaxy S22 vs S24: Camera Advancements

While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged with a 50MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto, the S24 series introduces a 12MP selfie sensor, a step up from the S22’s 10MP front camera. Notable improvements in AI and One UI 6.1 features promise enhanced low-light video recording and more sophisticated AI-based editing tools.

Galaxy S22 vs S24: One UI and Firmware Features

The Galaxy S24 and S24+ ship with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, offering a superior software experience. Unique features include Circle to search, Auto Summary and Transcripts, Chat Assist with real-time conversation translation, AI-powered tone suggestions, Generative wallpapers, and more. Notably, Samsung commits to longer software support for the S24 series, promising seven OS upgrades and seven years of security patches compared to the S22 lineup’s limited four and five years.

In anticipation of the official January 31 release, pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are open, accompanied by enticing bonuses for early adopters.
