IKEA's new smart home sensors

IKEA, renowned for its practical and budget-friendly smart home solutions, introduces a line of three affordable smart home sensors aimed at enhancing safety and preventing water damage. While IKEA may not be vying for top tech company status, it consistently delivers reliable smart home devices to meet evolving consumer needs.

Parasoll Door and Window Sensor: Intelligent Security for Access Points

Whether it’s a door or window, this sensor notifies you promptly of unexpected openings or closings. Notably, it seamlessly integrates with IKEA’s smart bulbs, offering a comprehensive solution for both security and lighting needs.

Vallhorn Wireless Motion Sensor: Customized Lighting Control

Adding versatility to the lineup is the Vallhorn wireless motion sensor, designed to activate lights upon detecting movement. Users have the flexibility to choose the desired color and intensity of the light. This sensor can efficiently manage up to 10 IKEA smart bulbs, providing a personalized and energy-efficient lighting experience.

Barding Water Leakage Sensor: Timely Alerts for Water Mishaps

Completing the trio is the Barding water leakage sensor, a crucial component in any home’s defense against water damage. This sensor promptly alerts you to any unforeseen water presence, offering the option of a mobile notification or triggering an alarm. With this device, you can address water-related issues before they impact your flooring.

These sensors, compact and white in design, seamlessly blend into your home environment. While their compatibility extends to IKEA’s Dirigera Hub, it’s worth noting that the Vallhorn sensor is exclusively compatible with the older Tradfri gateway.

IKEA’s Vision: Safety and Comfort at Home

IKEA’s motivation behind these new products is rooted in the universal desire for comfort and security at home. Stjepan Begic, Product Design Developer at IKEA of Sweden, emphasizes to providing not only a better but a safer life at home. The goal is to instill peace of mind, control, and comfort among customers.

These innovative additions follow the precedent set by previous sensors like Vindstyrka, designed to measure air quality.

Affordable Access: Pricing and Availability

While specific US pricing is pending, in Europe, the Parasoll is priced at €9.99, with the Vallhorn and Barding sensors available at €7.99 and €9.99, respectively. Anticipated to hit the US market in January (Vallhorn), April (Parasoll), and July (Barding) of 2024, these sensors offer an accessible and timely solution for those prioritizing home safety and automation.
