Samsung Unveils 2024 TV Lineup at CES Featuring AI Innovations

Samsung has showcased its 2024 TV lineup at CES 2024, introducing cutting-edge AI features and a remarkable ‘glare-free’ OLED model. While detailed product information, including pricing, is traditionally reserved for later announcements, the company offered Engadget a sneak peek into its latest television offerings ahead of the official press conference scheduled for Monday.
AI-Powered Enhancements in Motion, Depth, and Voice
The new 8K TVs from Samsung boast advanced AI-powered features aimed at elevating the viewing experience. These include upscaling technology designed to address the scarcity of native 8K content. Notably, a standout feature is the introduction of a “glare-free” OLED model, promising clarity in both bright and dark rooms.
Revolutionary AI Upscaling in Quantum Dot TVs
In a bid to entice consumers towards premium 8K TVs, Samsung’s quantum dot TVs incorporate AI-powered upscaling technology. The QN900D series, ranging from 65 to 85 inches, introduces the AI Upscaling Pro feature. This innovation converts 4K content into 8K, ensuring a superior viewing experience. Additionally, the TV can transform HD/SD media into 4K, mitigating the limitations of native 8K streaming options.
The QN900D is hailed as the “slimmest, most premium 8K TV to ever hit the market.” Beyond resolution upscaling, the television introduces features such as real-time recognition of sports content to track the game’s ball and the Real Depth Enhancer Pro algorithm to enhance contrast in fast-paced scenarios like car racing.
Audio Immersion with Active Voice Amplifier Pro and AI Customization Mode
Samsung’s QLED (8K and 4K) and OLED televisions integrate the Active Voice Amplifier Pro, an advanced audio enhancement feature that amplifies dialogue and key sound effects for a more immersive audio experience. Additionally, the AI Customization Mode prompts users to select their preferred picture during setup. The television then employs AI to detect the scene being watched and optimizes the picture based on user preferences.
Diverse TV Lineup Catering to Varied Preferences
Samsung caters to diverse preferences with the launch of the QN85D, a presumably more affordable 8K QLED TV, lacking some of the advanced AI conversion features. Simultaneously, the 4K NEO QLED lineup comprises the QN90D (43 to 98 inches) and QN85D (55 to 85 inches).
Innovative OLED Models for 2024
Samsung introduces new OLED models, the S90D and S95D (55 to 77 inches), for 2024. The S95D features the “OLED Glare Free” technology, ensuring an optimal viewing experience in various lighting conditions without compromising viewing angles or contrast. This model boasts a 4K 144Hz panel and an impressively slim profile, measuring just under 11mm thick.
Addressing Challenges of Ultra-Large Screens
Samsung’s 2024 lineup offers an array of ultra-large screen options, including 98-inch models in the Neo QLED 8K and 4K, QLED 4K, and Crystal UHD lineups. A notable AI-powered feature, the Supersize Picture Enhancer, tackles the issue of pixels becoming more discernible as screen size increases. This technology uses AI upscaling to enhance perceived sharpness and reduce visible noise, mitigating the challenges associated with larger TVs.
As Engadget covers the event live at CES 2024, Samsung’s press conference on Monday at 5PM ET promises a deeper exploration of the hardware and software-based features in their new televisions.
